Phsar Chaa, or the Old Market is the most centrally located attraction in Siem Reap. The shops are open from early hours until after dark, and is situated right opposite Pubstreet. I have previously written a comparison between the old market and the lesser known Phsar Leu.
Various kinds of dried, preserved meats are sold everywhere
I have decided to head to the Old Market to try the local Cambodian breakfast on the second day. Everything turned out as plan and I was spoilt for choice the moment I step in there:
Sweet or savory, starters to desserts all found under one roof at 8 in the morning. Better than your 5-star hotel breakfast buffet!
It was so crowded that I actually had to wait for a seat
Since the "food court" is located right in the middle of a wet market and sandwiched between the meat and the fruits/vege section, people would be walking in and out of this area A LOT, along with their loaded baskets and bags. They would stop by one of these noodle stalls for an express breakfast and a quick chat before resuming their errands.

...And meat and poultry on the left.
Sigh. That poor fish.
You will also see vendors selling fresh produce on the ground in the middle of narrow walkways, making it exceedingly difficult to walk
All kinds of deco items, jeweleries, souvenirs and snacks can be found on the outer part of the market
The Old Market is very much comparable to the ones in Vietnam and Bangkok and is a great place to go to for cheap eats and souvenir hunting. However, for a more exciting and localized experience, youve got to head on to Phsar Leu instead, which is easily accessible by tuk-tuks.
