Selection Tools Practice and Assignment


Learning Target:  Learn and practice important tools to select parts of photos for editing in Photoshop
Why:  To have the skills to create new and interesting projects

Selection Tools:

  • rectangle, 
  • elliptical, 
  • lasso, 
  • polygonal, 
  • magnetic, and 
  • quick selection

Tutorials: Select Part of an Image | Mask Out Image | Remove Person From Image

Assignment:  


  • Create a new document - landscape orientation and the standard photoshop size (11 inches by 8.5 inches).
  • Save new document as "Selection Tools" in your Photoshop Folder. 
  • For each tool (rectangular, polygonal lasso, elliptical marquee, magnetic lasso, lasso, quick select), you need two examples. 
  • Cut them out of a picture and place them on your new assignment document. 
  • Your background for the document MUST NOT be solid (see example).
  • Label the two selections with what tool you used (see example)
  • Using a clear and easy to read font (and color) include your name in the top left 
  • Using a clear and easy to read font (and color) include a title in the top center
  • Use consistency - fonts, colors, sizes, and shapes
Well watch tutorials today and then have a little time left to start the project.
