When you first arrive in Korea, eating out and trying different types of local food is very exciting. It is in fact a great way to experience and learn new culture. However, as you become settled, you might get tired of always eating out and start to miss food back home. Going out to a restaurant that sells your home food is an option. Or you might just want to stay home and cook your meal. To be honest, Daegu is not an ideal place to find international food markets since the number of stores is limited. However, you will be able to find a store in your neighborhood that sells some essential ingredients you are looking for. Instead of covering international food markets, my main focus today is on international food sections at big brands supermarkets like Emart, Homeplus and Costco because they are easily accessible options among all.

Located near Jincheon Station, Emart Wolbae provides a separate section for international foods. Among 7 other Emarts in Daegu, this particular store has a wider variety of items. You will be able to find sauce, seasoning and instant foods from Japan, China, Vietnam, America, England and more. With this basic ingredients, you can fix your own meal with local fresh ingredients.

What sets Emart Wolbae apart from other stores is a variety of imported oils it carries! This international food section is also popular for locals as well. Koreans love to add variations to their daily meal! Unfortunately, the store does not indicate English on any signs. Try to locate "column 12" and you will be able to find this section.

*Tip: look for canned food, cheese, pasta, dressing, sauce sections. Popular imported foods are also stocked with Korean products in each category.

At Homeplus Sangin, it is easy to find Imported Food section. A big sign above has English written on it. Half of left side of aisle 3 has foods from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Halal, China, Japan, Italy, America, England, etc. There are also a English sign at top of each shelf. Emart Wolbae and Homeplus Sangin carry some common basic items but they do have some differences.
